Once I read about one tribe that had an interesting ritual:
In the Babemba tribe in Africa, when a person acts irresponsibly or unjustly, he/she is placed in the center of the village, alone and unfettered. All work ceases, and every man, woman and child in the village gathers in a large circle around the “accused” individual. Then each person in the tribe speaks to the accused, one at a time, about all the good things the person in the center of the circle has done in his lifetime. Every incident, every experience that can be recalled with any detail and accuracy is recounted. All his/her positive attributes, good deeds, strengths and kindnesses are recited carefully and at length. The tribal ceremony often lasts several days.
I remembered it today, and suddenly thought: no one prevents us from creating such a circle for ourselves, and we can do it all ourselves, and it can be empowering.
And we don’t have to wait until we behave “irresponsibly or unjustly,” we can stand in this circle any moment, including right now! :)
We can imagine a circle of all the people who knew/know us, loved/love us, our children, friends, parents,..
We are actually in a better position than those tribe participants because we can imagine any people who are an inspiration to us, whether they be in physical or non-physical.
And then hear what they say to us, how they praise us, – as much as we enjoy listening to it.
Feeling, how our Inner Being confirms every sentence said.
So, let’s do it? :)
Imagine the circle, and write down what every person says. Remember, all the positive stuff, and only the positive stuff!
You can state their name, if you wish – it’s optional, you can write there “Inner Being” as well.
